3 reasons why vaping is better at helping you quit smoking than a nicotine patch

If you’re trying to quit smoking, you’ll know how hard it can be to kick the habit. Any tool that will help would be a great asset. But what’s going to help more – e-cigarettes, or nicotine patches?

A team at the University College London studied more than 6000 people attempting to quit smoking, and found that using e-cigarettes was 60% more effective than nicotine patches or quitting cold turkey.

1. They give you something to do with your hands

Many smokers like to light up in social situations, especially if they’re around other smokers. The habit of holding and dragging on a cigarette is hard to break, and nicotine patches don’t offer any relief from that habit.

E-cigarettes enable you to continue holding and dragging from something that resembles a cigarette. It helps with the transition from tobacco to e-liquid, and it’s also more pleasant for non-smokers around us, as they aren’t exposed to secondhand smoke.

2. E-cigarettes deliver nicotine in the same way as smoking

Many smokers find they prefer using e-cigarettes to patches or gum to help them quit smoking because e-cigarettes deliver the nicotine hit via the same method as a traditional cigarette.

Nicotine patches deliver the nicotine hit through the skin directly into the bloodstream, and nicotine gum is chewed (and often doesn’t taste very nice!) E-cigarettes use heated e-juice to produce a vapor that’s inhaled, the same as cigarette smoke.

3. Perfect for people with sensitive skin

There are some side-effects from using nicotine patches. One common side-effect is irritated skin around the area where the patch was placed. Also, if you’re out in the sun a lot, when you remove the patch, you’ll have an area of skin that’s lighter than the rest.

You won’t experience either of these issues with e-cigarettes.

When it comes to quitting smoking, you have to consider which tools will help you get the results you need. If you’re not keen on the taste of gum, and the patch doesn’t appeal, then you should try an e-cigarette.
